Enviro - ECO Club for environmental awareness

Enviro – The Eco Club of Presidency College (Autonomous) (NAAC Re accredited with A+ Grade) plays an important role in creating environmental awareness amongst both students and public in the vicinity. The objective of the club is to inculcate an eco-friendly lifestyle in the society at large.

Awareness about the importance of coexistence in the eco – system within the capacity of the Earth, is spread through various activities like planting trees, Cleanathon Drive and organizing poster competitions on various environmental issues.

The club also encourages ‘Green Initiatives’ by educating the entire college about pollution and environmental hazards through human activities and measures to minimize it. Emission certificates were verified and made mandatory for the vehicles to be parked within the premises thereby reducing the air pollution. Various talks are organized to emphasize and encourage the need to go green for a healthier and better world.

Eco Club imbibes in its members a true sense of the saying ‘Live and Let Live’.

PLANTATION DRIVE

Plantation drive was held by the Eco-club of Presidency College (Autonomous) on 31st August 2019 and 3rd Sept 2019 in Amruthanahalli area and Telecom Society – Hegde Nagar respectively.

60 Students from MFA, BA(J) , BBA , DCA && BCOM actively participated in the drive. Unfortunately, MBA department were having their weekend off.

The event went on for two days as we planted sixty plants were procured from the forest department .

Day 1 – 31st July, 2019 Plantation at Public Library, Amruthahalli

On the first day of plantation drive 31/08/2019 the journey started from Presidency College (Autonomous) at 10:50 a.m. by the vehicle provided by College towards Amruthanahalli where the members reached at 11:30 a.m.

A team of ten members was sent earlier to dig pits for plantation. Half of the plants were planted near public library in Amruthanahalli area.

Students were enthusiastic and actively participated in the plantation drive. Students worked till 3 p.m. and were provided with some refreshments.

CLEANATHON

The cleanliness drive was held by the Enviro – Club of Presidency where students of Commerce && Management, PG (MFA/M. Com) and BA(J) were part of the event.

The BBMP designated the area from Esteem mall until Presidency College (Autonomous) which was successful and started with gusto. The purpose of the drive was to create a civic sense among citizens of the neighbourhood to be socially responsible and to use dust bins, thereby reducing litter in public places.

The Health Inspector of the BBMP was present at the start of the event where he highlighted the need to devote time especially in cleaning slums and he strongly emphasised the need to avoid plastic bags.

Faculty members – Ms Vaishali Bopaiah , Ms Uma Chinchane && Ms Merilyn were part of the cleanathon drive and participated actively. Our Honorable Principal Dr Pradeep Kumar Shinde applauded the students for their zealous effort which served a great motivation to the club. The residents of Kempapura were taken up by the wonderful work done by the students and we need to ensure that cleanliness must be maintained continuously with the collective support of the residents && BBMP.

Cleanliness is definitely a step towards Godliness!

Eco –Awareness drive An In-house event conducted by Enviro – Club, Presidency College (Autonomous)

The Enviro – Club of Presidency presented a small skit on two themes “Chipko – Movement && Scarcity of water”. There was also Fund – Raiser: Sale of Bookmarks at Rs10 each with an overwhelming response from students and teachers who patronized the same.

Fund raiser – Sale of cloth bags

As part of the No Plastic Campaign, Eco Club organized sale of cloth bags made from sarees contributed by Teaching Staff and Students. The sale received overwhelming response from the student community. The club raised Rs 1,850 from the sale.
