PSI Phenomenon and Art Therapy - Psychology Day

13 - 14th, August 2024

The Psychology Department of Presidency College, Hebbal, Bangalore, hosted an engaging Psychology Day in the college quadrangle. This event aimed to raise awareness about various psychological concepts through immersive and interactive activities.

On August 14, 2024, the Psychology Department was honored to host Ms. Uma Shankari, Assistant Professor at RUAS, for a workshop on Art Therapy. Ms. Shankari, certified in Expressive Art Therapy and psychometric assessments, led an enlightening and interactive session on the therapeutic benefits of art.

Workshop Activities:

  1. Heart Drawing Activity:
Students drew a heart on paper and wrote down their thoughts or feelings, facilitating a creative connection with their emotions.
  2. Dot Creation Exercise:
Participants placed a dot on a blank sheet and transformed it into something meaningful, encouraging imaginative exploration.
  3. Shape and Colour Exercise:
Students painted shapes (angle, triangle, square, or circle) using three chosen colors, exploring the symbolism and emotional resonance of shapes and colors.
  4. Opposite Colour Painting:
Students painted images using colors opposite to their original hues, embracing new perspectives and flexibility in creativity.

Psychology Day at Presidency College was a well-rounded event blending education, creativity, and interactive experiences. The combination of engaging activities like the “Fear Tree” and Ms. Uma Shankari’s Art Therapy session made the event both enjoyable and reflective. The students’ enthusiastic participation left a lasting impression, and we look forward to future Psychology Day celebrations.
