Affiliated to Bangalore University, this course endeavours to equip the students with conceptual knowledge, analytical and life skills coupled with efficient communication in and beyond the sphere of professional journalism. The course visualizes a multi-dimensional approach to communication through the study of English Language and Literature and Political Science. It facilitates the students with numerous career options in the fields of Journalism, Communication, Advertising, Cinema, Public Relations, Teaching, Publishing, Research and Civil Services.

In a unique blend of theory and practice, knowledge and implementation, this course offers the students an opportunity to expose themselves to the real time hands on experience of class room learning.

The entire course is outcome based and faculty are sensitive to ensure that the outcomes for each course is defined well at the beginning of the programme and shared with each student through course hand outs. This ensures expectation setting is taken care of between the learner and the teacher. Interactive lectures, pedagogy that is evolving, assignments and assessments ensure that all students achieve the specified outcomes. The role of the faculty at Presidency thus is more of a mentor, facilitator and learning is outcome based.

Eligibility

Candidates should have passed in the qualifying examinations (Pre University or Intermediate) from any recognized Secondary Education Board.

Prudentia – The Communication Club

The club aims to develop the overall personality of the students by providing knowledge of both theory and practical aspects in the concerned subjects. It also aims to develop logical thinking, creativity, innovative ideas, decision-making skills, improve group cohesiveness, event management skills by organizing and conducting events. The club organizes competitions like Elocution, Spell-Bee, Picture interpretation, Crossword, Literature and Language quiz, Photography, Debate, Discussions, Feature writing, Caption writing, Cartooning, Theatre etc.

Film Club

The club aims at providing a platform for students to explore the world of cinema as an educational, cultural and artistic expression. The club organizes film screenings with Quiz sessions, discussions and analysis. Expert interactions and competitions on film appreciation and film reviews will be conducted to enable students understand and appreciate the aesthetics of cinema.

Certificate Courses

Centre For Media Studies accommodates a number of certificate courses.

  • Television Production

    The objective of the course is to explain the entire process of News Operations through seasoned Media Professionals and to shed more light on the nuances of Journalism; from identifying the right story to the final output on Television.

  • Radio Programming

    The course is designed to develop and equip students to become competent radio professionals who will be made market ready to pursue a career in Radio with confidence and conviction.

  • Indesign & Page Layout

    This certificate course is designed to facilitate the students to learn the skills of designing and laying out the content of the newspaper using Indesign software.

Vrittanta – Media Fest

The Centre For Media Studies takes pride in hosting the Media Fest (Vrittanta – the story) epitomizing the true selves of budding journalists. We thrive in a time of baffling complexities. It is a challenge for media personae to perform their duties with honesty, integrity, dedication and patience.

The fest focuses on reiterating the inter-dependence of media and the populace: the principles and values that media stands for! The objective of this carnival is to facilitate the young journalists to stand the test of time and brazen themselves to uphold the true spirit of journalism.

Blending theory with practice through a structured six-semester orientation in the fields of Journalism, Political Science and English Literature, this course offers the students an opportunity to expose themselves to the real time hands on experience of class room learning.
